Academics

Common ground for the wide variety of activities that make up the rich and engaging curriculum at Berkeley is an uncompromising commitment across all grades to the highest standards of educational excellence.

The cornerstones of a Berkeley education are the core college-preparatory subjects of language and literature, mathematics, science, social studies and history, world languages, and the arts. International themes are common, broadening students’ global awareness. As individual interests emerge, we add more choice to the structure.

Berkeley offers a vigorous, well-balanced course load at every grade level. Each division's curriculum is focused on educating our young people in a manner consistent with our mission: To nurture students' intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and physical development so that they may attain their highest potential.

Arts

Berkeley Prep ArtsBerkeley’s fine arts program is an integral part of the Berkeley educational experience. Headed by gifted artists, the program’s wide array of fine arts courses include painting, sculpting, printmaking, photography, music, drama, ceramics, silk dying, dance and video production.

Students discover untapped abilities, channel newfound creativity and hone talents at levels of professionalism beyond their years – and even their imaginations. While students are translating skills into meaningful works, they are also learning to think in visual, spatial and auditory terms as well as to discipline themselves and their time.

Berkeley is one of the only schools in the Tampa Bay area to offer performing arts for all students from Pre-K through Grade 12. Year in and year out, Berkeley musicals open to sell-out crowds. These drama department productions are worthy of any professional show and are renowned for extravagant sets; talented singers, dancers and actors; as well as a state-of-the-art theater to rival any college campus.

Athletics

Athletics enrich the lives of Berkeley students. With a “no-cut” policy, more than 80% of our students compete in interscholastic sports. This creates a climate of teamwork, cooperation and sportsmanship that encourages students to develop new skills and talents, often with dramatic results.

The combination of sound coaching, hard work, talent and academic preparation has allowed our students to garner scholarships from dozens of schools including Stanford, Davidson, Duke, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Vanderbilt.

Berkeley’s full range of varsity and junior varsity teams in the Middle and Upper Divisions includes 16 sports and more than 60 teams. Berkeley is a 3A school and a member of the Florida High School Athletic Association and the Florida West Coast League.
